Partial journal, keeper unknown, relating to a whaling voyage to the Pacific Ocean. Journal includes stamps, latitude and longitide coordinates, barometric readings, description of whales seen and taken, and vessels spoken. Ports of call include the Bay of Islands, Niue, Savage Island, Matureivavao (called Vavao), and Russell Bay. Keeper also mentions desertions, trading and selling provisions with vessels spoken and gammed, an indicent where the keeper looses consciousnes after getting struck on the head with an oar and falls out of the whaleboat while giving chase to a sperm whale, an indicent where crewman Henry Luis A. Dominiga stabbed fellow crewman Manuel Rama with a knife, a fight among the crew while anchored at Niue, a failed desertion attempt by two crewmen where one drowned after their stolen canoe capsized, the seasickness of the crew, meeting friends while in port at Vavao, an observation of a total eclipse of the moon, description of sailing though a hurricane, leaking of the vessel during a storm, the drunken exploits of the third mate, and trading/interacting with native peoples. Keeper is a devoutly religious man and also writes affectionately of his wife, Ellen.
